NDSU Composition Program Releases Northern Harmony 2025 Anthology of Student and Faculty Works

FARGO, N.D. — The North Dakota State University Composition Program has released Northern Harmony 2025, a new anthology featuring original music by NDSU student and faculty composers. The collection showcases works for a wide range of ensembles and instruments, including piano, marimba, wind ensemble, brass band, saxophone quartet, string orchestra, voice, and chamber music.

Published through Fargo Composers Press, the anthology brings together compositions created within the NDSU music community and provides participating composers with an opportunity to see their work professionally engraved, published, and distributed.

The 2025 anthology includes music by student composers Owen Cary, Ashley Polkinghorn, Henry Radoc, Jacob Reinbold-Nagel, Caleb Roth, Connor Straub, and Zach Veen, alongside works by faculty composers Jonathon Erickson, Martin J. Van Klompenberg, and Kyle Vanderburg.

Unlike many educational publications, Northern Harmony 2025 operates through a licensing model that allows composers to retain ownership of their works while granting permission for inclusion in the anthology. Participating composers receive a share of anthology sales revenue, introducing students to the practical realities of music publishing and intellectual property management.

The anthology represents a broad cross-section of compositional voices and musical styles emerging from the NDSU composition program. By combining artistic development with practical professional experience, the project reflects the program’s commitment to preparing students for contemporary creative careers.

Northern Harmony 2025 is available through Fargo Composers Press.
